Electric arc furnace transformers (EAF) are essential equipment in most steel factories. Therefore, they require specialized design, engineering, and production technology to ensure proper performance under harsh operating conditions involving mechanical, insulation, and temperature stresses. The unique loading cycle of these transformers subjects them to significant stresses. Special considerations in the design and production of EAF transformers include alternating entry and exit from the circuit, high inrush current, high operating current, operation close to short circuit conditions, fast transient overvoltages, harmonic conditions, and the frequency of the voltage regulator switch operation under load.
